GOLF SANTA PONSA

Golf Santa Ponsa brings together three courses in Calvià, Mallorca: two 18-hole, par-72 layouts and a nine-hole, par-30 course that can be played as a Pitch & Putt. For a golfer planning a visit, the distinction is useful: the club offers both full-length rounds and a shorter course suited to beginners and short-game practice.

The club has hosted the European Tour seven times, with players including Severiano Ballesteros and José Mª Olazábal taking part. Its courses opened between 1977 and 1999, while the practice facilities add a grass driving range, a chipping area and two putting greens to the golf on offer.

Santa Ponsa I

Opened in 1977, Golf Santa Ponsa I was designed by Folco Nardi with the participation of Pepe Gancedo. It has 18 holes, plays to par 72 and is the longest of the club’s three courses, measuring 6,543 metres from the white tees.

The yellow tees measure 6,219 metres, the blue tees 5,617 metres and the red tees 5,250 metres. Those differences make the choice of tee an important part of planning a round: the total distance varies substantially across the four sets.

Santa Ponsa II

Pine woodland and large lakes define the setting of Golf Santa Ponsa II. Opened in 1991, it shares the 18-hole, par-72 format of Santa Ponsa I, but is shorter from each corresponding tee colour.

The course measures 6,053 metres from white, 5,706 from yellow, 5,128 from blue and 4,872 from red. For visitors comparing the two 18-hole options, the woodland-and-lake setting and the overall distances are the key distinctions to note.

Santa Ponsa III

Golf Santa Ponsa III opened in 1999. Its nine holes have a par of 30 and measure 1,599 metres from the yellow tees or 1,332 metres from the red tees.

Suitable for beginners and for practising the short game, it can also be played as a Pitch & Putt. It therefore has a different role from the two 18-hole layouts: a shorter course for those starting out or wanting to focus their session on short-game play.

Practice facilities

The driving range is 250 metres long and has more than 50 grass hitting positions. A separate chipping area and two putting greens extend the practice options beyond the longer clubs.

Together, these facilities allow golfers to combine a round with work on driving, approach shots and putting, or to make practice the focus of their visit.
