About the club
Club de Golf Costa Brava brings together two 18-hole courses in Santa Cristina d'Aro, in Girona province, Catalonia. For a golfer visiting the Costa Brava, the distinction is straightforward: the Verde is the club's original course, while the Rojo opened in a later period. An academy, practice range, clubhouse, golf shop and dining facilities complete the offering.
The club describes itself as the oldest on the Costa Brava and the area's only social golf club.
The original course: Recorrido Verde
Designed by J. Hamilton Stutt and opened in 1968, the Recorrido Verde has 18 holes and a par of 70. Its place in the club's history is clear: this is the original layout, rather than the later addition.
Four sets of tees provide the following total lengths:
- White tees: 5,600 metres.
- Yellow tees: 5,429 metres.
- Blue tees: 4,874 metres.
- Red tees: 4,695 metres.
These figures are useful when considering which tees to play. They also give a more precise picture of the Verde than its par alone, with different total distances available within the same course.
The later course: Recorrido Rojo
The Recorrido Rojo opened in 2011, with a design by Jorge Soler and Eugenio Aguado. Like the Verde, it has 18 holes, but its par is 73.
The two courses therefore represent different stages in the club's development, with different designers and pars. When planning a visit, keeping their names separate helps distinguish the original 1968 layout from the course introduced in 2011.
Practice and facilities beyond the courses
The club has a golf academy and a driving range, each with its own page in this guide. The range features eight Toptracer simulators for interactive practice and play, adding another way to spend time on golf alongside a round on either course.
The clubhouse is named Casa club La Masía. Other facilities include a golf shop and two dining venues, the Restaurante and the Snack Bar. These also have their own guide pages, allowing the individual facilities to be considered separately from the courses.
Taken together, the two layouts, academy and Toptracer-equipped range give visitors several ways to approach their golf here. The clubhouse, shop and dining venues form the rest of the club's offering in Santa Cristina d'Aro.
